Sapphire is in the Corundum Family is the gemstone of the sky (Greek word Sapphire meaning blue). Sapphire is most known for shades of blue, but it comes in every color except red (Ruby). One of the most rare and valuable sapphires is a pinkish orange sapphire Padparadscha (Sinhalese for "Lotus Flower") In medieval times, Sapphire was the original engagement stone as it is the symbol of loyalty. One of the varieties that is found domestically is called Montana Sapphire and is known for its beautiful teal blue color. Sapphires are the 2nd hardest stone next to diamond and are a 9 on Moh's scale of mineral hardness.
